Petite Cuisine - Natural Cat Food - Real food for cats

My girlfriend and I recently rescued four homeless kittens and their mother and have been really having a memorable time getting the kittens acclimated to people. Sadly we weren't able to work with the mother who was completely feral, but we were able to get her spade and then we released her as all of our local shelters were full. Really a tough decision for us, but we did the best we could and by rescuing the kittens, which were ALL female, we figured we probably saved quite a few unwanted kittens from being born and continuing the vicious cycle. Anyhow, when the opportunity to try these kitty treats came along you can imagine our excitement as having four additional mouths to feed can be quite problematic at times and we were excited to get any type of additional food or treats for the little hooligans. Well to put it mildly the kittens absolutely loved the treats and couldn't get enough of them. The only complaint I have is that these treats should either come with a warning sticker or a box of band-aids as the kittens literally tried to eat my fingers when I attempted to give it to them. I guess I should have been a bit smarter and put it on a plate first instead of trying to feed them by hand. I will have to remember that if I ever decide to feed a hungry bear!

When I saw this PETITE CUISINE GRILLED TUNA TREATS product for cats, I KNEW I had to let me Muffin, Ginger and Peaches try it for themselves. I'm all about feeding them healthy and the omega-3/omega-6 fats in this were a huge plus in my book. When I opened up the package, I was impressed to see the tuna actually looked like tuna and not some fake tuna-like substance. And there was a little zip lock on it so you could portion out the amount of treats for your feline friends and then reseal it. Cool. But what was not-so-cool was just how messy it was to take out of the bag, dripping wet and splashing all over the front of my shirt, big long chunks that has to be broken up by hand before sharing with my cats. While they devoured this special treat as soon as it hit the floor, their owner was busy washing his soiled shirt and trying to get that awful "fishy" smell off of his hands. There's got to be a better way to get the treat chunks into smaller pieces and not so messy...maybe individually wrapping each bite-sized portion would be better. It's not a bad product, but it could be better. Just want to say that my 3 cats love your range of food.  Even my usual fussy cat loves it.  Consider me a new devoted customer.  Thanks for a high quality product- we need more like this!

This tuna smells so good it makes you, as a human, want to eat it. Although, it is strictly warned on the packaging that it isn't for human consumption. As far as for a pet is concerned, my cat ate it. But it didn't seem to be her favorite. What I've noticed with cats and tuna fish is that they go for the juice more so than the actual meat of the tuna itself. And this package is a little sparse in the juice element. So I think your cat will like it, I can't say whether or not it wouldn't just be easier to buy a can at the grocery store. But this does seem like a healthier choice.

Sushi has been getting a bit picky about his canned cat food lately. But tonight the food vanished in minutes.

Usually I feed him a third of a can of cat food, then some dry. This package is about an ounce less than a can, so even though this is a "cat treat" I gave him one of the three strips in place of the canned food for tonight. Normally he turns his nose up at the wet food and pesters me for the dry, but he absolutely loved this. Sometimes he has trouble keeping food down if he's not used to eating it, but that's been no problem so far tonight.

The tuna smell was quite strong, which of course got Sushi's attention quickly. If this had been a tuna steak on my plate, I'd have been a little annoyed. It was tough, like it had been overcooked, and I was unable to break it up with a fork. I finally picked it up and pulled it apart. This was obviously no problem for the cat, but given the cost I'd hope for better quality control.

There were no serious problems with the package here, although the plastic bag didn't want to be extracted from the cardboard sleeve at first. It was full of liquid, which the cat loved (and which he needs,) so I opened it over the sink. Of course a few drops escaped.

Current nutritional information:
Protein minimum 28%
Crude fat minimum 2%
Crude fiber maximum 1%
Moisture maximum 75%
Sodium maximum 3%
Omega 3 fatty acid 200mg minimum
Omega 6 fatty acid 17mg minimum

The tuna is "dolphin safe" and obtained by "eco-safe sustainable fishing." Ingredients are wild caught tuna and water for processing. Tonight Sushi is eating better than me!

These treats are real tuna steaks grilled and sliced into 3 strips. There are no additives, no fillers, just real tuna packaged conveniently in a resealable pouch. (See photos above)

The Pros:
1) My picky cat that doesn't like treats, loves these.
2) My picky dog that loves fish and who also thinks she's a cat, loves these
3) Since this is just pure tuna, it is safe for both cats and dogs.
4) Conveniently and attractively packed in a easy-tear, resealable pouch and is ideal for traveling or for gift giving.

Cons:
1) The resealable pouch isn't completely leak-proof.
2) The resealable pouch was packaged with some tuna juice on the outside of the seal and so when opening, tuna juice gets everywhere.
3) Expensive. This is basically a slice of tuna steak in water, so a comparable product would be chunk light tuna canned in water at a 1/6 the price. I doubt that whether the tuna is grilled or not would make a difference to the animals.
4) As this is an actual tuna steak sliced into 3, the teats are hard to break into smaller bite-sized pieces that one would give their cat or dog. It needs to be additionally cut into smaller pieces by fork and knife or with scissors.

Overall a healthy treat that is minimally processed. Although expensive, it would make an ideal gift or special occasion treat.

Our cat is the ultimate of fussiness. She will only sleep on down pillows, and will only drink bottled water from a crystal goblet. Her favorite food is Florida stone crab (at $39 per pound currently). Thus, I thought she would be a tough test for Petite Cuisine Grilled Tuna. She loved it! She even begged for more. But to give it a further test, I tried it on my daughter's three cats, and they loved it. From this, I conclude that Petite Cuisine Grilled Tuna is likely to be a real treat for cats.

When I first opened the package of Petite Cruisine Grilled Tuna the cat was no where in sight. But I swear I wasn't done opening it and she came running. And begged and begged and begged.

The removal of the treat from the bag was not an enjoyable experience. You will get the juice and the stink all over your hand and they don't stay together as one piece, they flake apart (as fish is supposed to I guess). Next time I will use a fork to remove them from the package. But the cats LOVED these treats. Would I buy them? Yes, as a special treat for the kitty's I would. As an everyday treat? No - too messy and hard to handle.

I was just wondering if you could tell me where I can purchase your product? I was able to buy the sampler can pack at my local petco but they didn't sell the single cans! My kittens LOVE your food and I don't want to run out. Is there a link or page on your site that shows listings of places that sell your product? I couldn't find anything. My zip code is 51537 but I often travel to a large city about 55-60 miles away so any listings within that mile range is welcome. Thanks!  Melissa

I recently received my sample pack of Petite Cuisine.  So far our two cats love the food.

One of our cats, when we adopted her two years ago, had digestive problems that the vet said resembled colitis.  Since then we have only fed her natural or limited ingredient brands.  She adapted well to the Petite Cuisine and seems happy and healthy.

Thanks for your product.  I have recommended it to others.Robert B

________________________________________________________________________my cats megan and chuckie love your cat food, but the supermarkets i used to find your food in don't carry it anymore. are there any distributors/supermarkets/pet stores in rhode island who carry your food line. it is the best, my chuckie is 19 years old and still going strong (due in large part to the quality of your food)thank you so much. I actually bought a box of 6 cans of Petite Cuisine at Petco, will this always be available?  My cat is extremely picky, and he loves your food! Thank you, Linda B

Hello.

The other day, I found your products on a supermarket shelf for the first time and fell in love with it, because I was always looking for wet food that my cat would love. When I gave it to her, she loved it so much that she ate the whole can!! that has never happened before. She would usually lick the sauce and leave the solid alone, but she couldn't resist the Petite Cuisine!! I had a good feeling about it when I found it in the supermarket, so I bought two boxes, and I'm glad I did so!!  Mari M

I have three adorable cats, Oscar, Bianca, and Lindberg. Buying Petite Cuisine was the best decision I made. My cats are very "picky" when it came to can food and I wasted a lot of money these past few months finding a can food they enjoy eating. My cats eat dry Sci-Diet and for a while were eating the can food. All of them shared one can and still did not consume their portions. On the days I was preparing fresh tuna, salmon, shrimp, or chicken for dinner, they too had a piece. With Petite Cuisine, there is no waste and my cats do not beg for the fresh stuff anymore. Thank you!  Monica G

My three cats simply love this food.  However, it is not available at the Petco that was listed on your web site.  I am having to order it online.

My oldest cat who is 15 years is so excited to get her plate of food in the morning.

What a great product.......

Lynne

Our three cats are attestable fiends for your food! I thought there might be a waning period, something like a second month working for See's Candy...But there's no loss of vigor or assertive (greedy) eating, causing even the shy cat to be nudging into the others' bowls. Then we considered the hot weather - with thoughts that they might sometime leave some food in the bowl. Not a trace. George N

To Whom It May Concern: I work at a store on Shelter Island in New York and I am in charge of ordering for the pet food department.  I just started carrying your product, as a matter of fact I put it on sale this week.  They are flying off the shelf.  I have two cats of my own and they both love the food.  Thank you Alex H

Thank you so much for responding. Our cats are called Kiko and Mischa. They are 17 year old Sealpoint Siamese. Kiko has been very sick with a kidney infection so has lost a lot of weight. This is almost the only food she will eat and keep down right now! Her favorite is Sesame Chicken. Have you considered adding turkey? They both love turkey. Anyway, your product is great and has been a lifesaver. I don't know if Kiko will make it through this, but eating is half the battle. Thanks again. Ann

I bought the variety pack last week.  My three cats love the food & thank you from all of us. Cherie K

My mom lives in San Clemente, CA and someone brought her a few cans of petite cuisine and her cat loves it!  Where can she buy it close to her? Thank you.Cherie F

Indy loved the food!  Please tell me where the food is produced. Is it produced by Menu Foods; and are any of the ingredients sourced from China? Thank you, Charlotte  RESPONSE: Petite Cuisine is made in Thailand but is not associated with Menu Foods or any of the recent companies that were involved in the recall. Petite Cuisine’s manufacturers are dedicated to producing high quality food that is safe and healthy.

I decided to try Petite Cuisine.  Because of all the recalls I was extremely hesitant to try it.  My  cat loved the food.  Elaine M

After trying every brand I could get my hands on after the wheat gluton scare-I finally found your Variety Pack.  My 18 year old cat eats it and loves it.

Hi!  Just wanted to tell you how much my cats love this food :)  And with 8 cats, I've been getting a lot of it.  I work in the veterinary field...I always tell the people about the food.  Lynn D

Just wanted to leave you a quick thank you note for his splendidly made food. My cat Sophie just adores all the flavors. I appreciate that it doesn't "stink"! As a matter of fact it looks like it's humanly edible!? Thanks again for this product! Best wishes for continued success!!!  Kris A

Hello, I just wanted to say that my cats love the food. I usually give them wet food in the evening and I put one of your cans and the other food in separate dishes and they inhaled your sample. Jenafor D

My cat’s name is 'Mouse'.  Thank you for your wonderful product.  It has made my life so much easier.  I've purchased every brand from Rainbow Acres, Wild Oats, Whole Foods, etc.  He'd eat one can maybe two-after that, no more.  Now I pop the top and he gobbles the food down.  Thanks again, April G

Just had to write about our kitty, Coco.  After the big pet food scare happened, we were quite concerned about what to feed our kitty that would not harm her.  We tried many different foods, but Coco was not eating.  This went on for quite a while and we even tried the "special" foods offered by our Vet.  She would eat the food once, maybe twice, but after that, she would look at the bowl and look at us and as if to say, "get that stuff outta my bowl, I'm not eating that again!"  And, worst of all, she lost almost a pound of weight because she was not eating.  While looking for local cat shows on the computer, I ran across your food.  Much to our surprise, Coco gobbled up the food in record time.  Its the first time that I saw sparks coming off our kitty's teeth when she was eating!!!  AND, Coco has gained back a half pound in weight... Also, her coat has improved and is quite glossy and smooth.  If you have a "picky eater kitty",  Petite Cuisine is the answer!  Coco has not skipped a meal since we changed to Petite Cuisine. I highly recommend your product to all kitty owners. Try it, you and your kitty won't be disappointed Geoffrey B

To Whom It May Concern,

One of our cats is allergic to many foods including tuna, shrimp, beef, pork, wheat, green pea, etc.  We tried the “special food” from the vet but the cats couldn’t get past the smell.  We have tried every brand of chicken and/or turkey cat food available in our area but most contain wheat or green pea which "Georgie" can not eat.  The foods that are free of his particular allergens have been met with total disgust and are left uneaten.  Meal time was always a big deal in our house.  The cats would get all excited and seemed to really enjoy being called for dinner.  When they repeatedly would not eat I was forced to make meals from scratch.  This turned out to be most inconvenient at times and like the children, they were not thrilled with leftovers.  My daughter and I just recently came across your products, chicken pot pie and sesame chicken, in one of our many searches for acceptable fare for Georgie.  We took it to the vet, got the okay, and tried it on all of them.  We were delighted to see all three of our adopted cats devour their dinner.  Meal time is once again a joyous time, the cats come running when they are called and they finish their meal.  Now I only have to cook for the humans in the family.  Thank you for a great product and please don't change the recipe.  P.S.  Where can I get your product in bigger cans.   Sue M

I have recently acquired a 12 week old abandoned kitten. My vet has given her(Nani) a "clean bill of health" and has updated her well needed shots. My little girl's palate has not been finicky, until I DECIEDED to buy a 4-pack of your food. IAMS, Whiskas, & Fancy Feast: LOOK OUT!! Competition abounds!! :) Thank You (Mahalo)

Just wanted to tell you that my very picky cats (two indoor and one feral) just love Petite Cuisine.  In fact, I've been using it to help get one of my cats to take her pills (which she actually looks forward to now).  Many thanks.  Dianne and her feline friends Ethel, Larry and the feral.

Jerry and I and the cats, Pepper and Bennie just want to thank youso much for the Petite Cuisine. Pepper loves it and seems much spunkier in this last month of eating healthy. Who know pet food could make a difference. He is 12 years young and weighs in at a health 16 lbs. Thank you for such a great product. Cindy M

Hello, I’m happy to say my male and female loves your Petite Cuisine soft cat food every morning or at night time for a treat. Carol C

Our cats just love the fish entrees. Much more so than the Fancy Feast or Iams. What a nice idea with your Birthday Club!  Patty

I went to Petco last night to buy canned cat food for my 5 boys (rescued as ferals). I happened to see your canned food in a box as a sampler pack and thought I would give it a try. I opened the first can this morning and my boys couldn’t get enough of it. They licked their bowls clean and were looking for more. I went on the website to add their names for the birthday club but it only allows 2 names and I have 5. I plan on ordering more from you before the end of the month to get in on the half price cases. With 5 cats you can imagine how much food I need. I also supplement with dry cat food during the day.  Elana K

Just a quick note to thank you for your product. I have a 13-year-old cat who, after being fit for 7 years, grew to become very large at 18.6 lbs. Nothing worked. Not limiting dry food , not the "Catkins Diet" of just canned food.

I originally purchased Petite Cuisine because it did not have fillers or wheat gluten, however, when I started feeding him it exclusively, the weight began to gradually drop - even though he was getting exactly the same amount he had always gotten. Over the course of a year, he dropped to a healthy 12 lbs. and is now holding steady. At one point my vet, who had never heard of Petite Cuisine, tried to convince me to change to Iams or a similar product, but once she went online and read the ingredients, she told me "Don't change a thing." My friends laugh at me that I have my cat's food shipped from California! He now gets a can in the morning and one at night. If his weight drops at all, he gets an extra half can. Thanks to you, Max is no longer "the fat cat" and acts like a kitten again. Jana S
